“A TIMELY INTERVENTION” HEADMASTER SAYS AS REACT DONATES BOOKS TO TUMEAMENKO BASIC SCHOOL

The Tumeamenko Assemblies of God Basic school in the Bono region  took delivery of books donation as part of REACT’s ongoing Schools Book Support scheme. The school which is  situatted in the Sunyani West Municipal district and was nominated by one of  REACT’s local representative, Ms. Deborah Awuku has 145 pupil population and although massively under resourced remains competitive in some of the district’s reading competition.

The headmaster of the school Mr. Poyor Emmanliel  thanked REACT and their supporting donors Usborne Books UK for their kind donation which was done through the Municipal Director of Education for Sunyani West Mr Issah Baffoe. Mr Poyor said the school’s quest to deliver quality education and produce literate students is often hampered by inadequate learning materials and therefore sees the donation as a timely intervention which will help improve the children’s reading ability to become a competitive participant in subsequent reading competitions in the region.

Mr Poyor expressed hope that the donation will help the children improve and excel to  justify the confidence reposed in them by REACT. He pledged to keep the books save, make them available to learners so that the intention with which they have come would be realized.

Asked why she nominated the school Ms Deborah Awuku said it is located in a deprived area and parents are peasant farmers and provision of educational materials for children has always been a problem. However Deborah said, the children have always shown the zeal to improve upon their performance which is reflected in the last reading festival conducted by the Municipal Directorate of Education where the school was the only deprived school that was able to contest at the district level and therefore felt that such  support will only help improve drastically their reading and other academic activities.

The Municipal Education director, Mr Issah Baffoe said he remembered the great job done by Tumeamenko school during the district reading competition and that influence his choice of the school as the deserved beneficiary of the books when the opportunity came.

The CEO of REACT Humanitarian Network; Prince Osei Akowuah in a remote message said REACT will continue to support schools in need to compliment Local Authority’s effort in providing quality education to children. Prince assured the school of more support and expressed gratitude to Usborne Books UK for making such support possible.
